Epinions A new 16MB Cache SATA II setup for my RAID 1 configuration! Western Digital WD2500KS

by  alexanderaku,  Jun 4, 2006
Pros: Sweet deal for an entry level Enterprise class hard drive.
Cons: As with any SATA drive, the install can be difficult.
The Bottom Line: With its popularity, you would be hard pressed to go wrong buying this drive. It offers compatibility others haven't approached. Just be sure your system is properly set up first.
Review: The SE 16 SATA II WD2500KS is no stranger in the marketplace, having been around since May 2005, and I was in the market for a new set of SATA drives for my last years model GA-7N400 Pro2 motherboard (nForce2 chipset with Sil3512 SATA RAID chipset). ...

Pros: Fast! Quiet! & Cool! Great Value too!
Cons: If using as 2ndary drive, check your BIOS to ensure they're enabled.

Pros: Fast speed, 16 MB cache, supports SATA II, quiet, good price.
Cons: Warranty 1 year is a little short. 7,200 RPM limits speed of SATA II.
The Bottom Line: Fast and quiet drive with good performance. A good value if you get one on sale. Not the best drive available but a good balance of price and quality
Review: I bought this 250 GB Western Digital Caviar drive for a scant $49 a CompUSA when they had a $90 rebate on it. Watch out for their weekend deals which start on Sunday mornings, they often feature a good price on a hard drive. A more typical "good" ...

Epinions It is not the drive - it is the service after that counts!

by  al_in_cal,  Oct 13, 2005
Pros: Interesting specs, quite operation.
Cons: Dead on arrival - very poor support.
The Bottom Line: If you want to be on bleeding edge - give it a shot, otherwise stick with something that works.
Review: The final update 11/4 - Western Digital second line tech support told me that the problem with the second drive was my use of Western Digital's Data Lifegard - it messes up MBR for good. I was told to use Western Digital's Diag to write zeroes to the ...
