Finally Got The Wireless Working

by  benthardunthat,   Oct 1, 2006

Pros:  Small footprint, good looks, wireless. Good WWW Community support, not Linksys.

Cons:  Setup leaves you hanging & Didn't cover my setup. The simplist setup isn't detailed.

The Bottom Line:  Recommended (so far)! Once you get past the setup,or have someone experienced with this unit do it for you, it's a great little device.

For those that had the same problem, where it works great as long as it's wired.... then loses it when goin Wireless..

Here's what worked for me after many hours of trial 'n error.

First, like the other reviewers mentioned, the setup needs some work as there's missing references that leave you wondering what to do next while running the setup wizard. Once you've overcome those problems and are able to print via wire.. then begins the wireless setup.

Note: With XP, nothing from the setup CD or setup Wizard is required if you choose to go with IP Printing & Static IP on the PS. The Admin Utility is just a partial copy of the www interface, and the PS drivers are only required when you use th PS printing port. This is not mentioned anywhere!

I strongly recommend the browser interface to complete the setup (http://192.168.1.XX) (pressing reset 2 seconds prints the config. page with the IP address)

If your using WEP, or some level of security, that's why you arrived here, the WEP Key #, and Key code must match perfectly on the PC, Laptop, Router, and now the Print Server. The PS is a bit finicky in 128 Bit mode, so in my case I had to go back to all my other configs and get a WEP code that would also pass the tests of the PS. I ended up with 26(hex) for every device in my network. Previously, for KEY1, I could have different code numbers on all devices, not anymore.

Finally found a WEP code that 'takes' on all devices. and now I'm printing wirelessly.

Other comments re: heat, no crappola, this little sucker gets way to hot. I added taller feet for more efficient cooling, but it really needs a fan too.

I did wind up using the IP Printing Port and made the IP of the Print Server static, on the top end of my range.

The first PC/PS/Router config. took a few hours, the others were about 5/6 minutes each.

I'll post back here if anything else comes up like dropped connections, etc.
