Doesn't stand out
Pros:
Good story, graphics great in most cases
Cons:
Strange graphic bugs sometimes, "floaty" controls
The Bottom Line:
It is worth picking up if you want something a little different than the regular shooter game, but it isn't the greatest.

Author's Review
It seems like this time of year is when game developers shove out the games that no one will really notice. Huge games usually seem to come out in the Summer, or during Christmas.
Vietcong is the perfect game to come out at this time. It doesn't stand out in any way, but is a nice game to waste some time on until the next big thing comes out.
The game has pretty good graphics, good colors and levels through the whole thing. Most of it takes place in forest/jungle areas, so there isn't much variety, but most areas seem like they go on forever (even though you can't really go that far). These nice graphics did run slow in a few place (lots of enemies or good guys running around shooting usually caused it), but overall was pretty smooth. I am using a RAdeon 9700, so slower graphics cards might chug a little slower. I did see as few graphic glitches in some places. People would get caught in walls, then their head would keep running while their body stayed stuck. This only happened a few times, and after restarting I didn't see it again, so I don't think that was the norm.
The controls can be changed to whatever you want, but one thing did bug me about them. When you are running/crawling it seems kind of floaty, like you aren't in total control of the character. Very strange, I haven't ever noticed something like that before.
The sound was ok, but didn't stand out. People talk to you and yell stuff at the enemy (which can get annoying), but nothing seems too spectacular.
The story is put together very well. You play a solder that has been transfered to a new area to replace the last soldier that was killed. It follows you while meeting new people and going to new areas. It is more realistic than Soldier of Fortune games, but probably not as much as the Rainbow Six games, so keep that in mind. There is a little more to it than running through rooms killing everything in site.
I did like this game, but probably wouldn't have played as much if there where more new games to play right now.
