Good but not that good
Pros:
Team ability, multiplayer maps, most graphics
Cons:
sound, glitches, controls
The Bottom Line:
i would recommend this to people who like war games like Delta Force and Rainbow Six. i would probably have waited until the priced dropped though.

Author's Review
Vietcong puts you in the role of Stephen Hawkins (not hawkings) an information specialist sent to a Nui Pek to replace a previous IS that was killed in the line of duty.
Overall i like the game. It has good gameplay, graphics and, a decent AI.
GAMEPLAY
I enjoy a good first person shooter and this is a good one. The weapons are well modeled as are the movements of the other characters you see in the game. You have relatively decent control of your guys, though, they still wonder about sometimes where they are not supposed to. (I killed one guy with artillery fire because he ran right into it after I called it in.) The map seems very open ended even though it is fairly closed off with dense foliage and unjumpable ledges and rock formations. The enemy also seems pretty intelligent. Enemies take cover, fire through bushes, throw grenades, reload, retreat to some extent (though not a lot), and ambush you. In some games i've played if enemies lived past their first clip they would go to their side arm and eventually something else (depending on the game) and when you collected their weapon you got another clip of ammo when they didn't even bother reloading their better weapon (seems kinda semantical but it detracts from the realism.)
GRAPHICS
The graphics look pretty good. Character models, weapons, and locations are really well done. They ran kinda slow on my computer, which i'm not sure why, i have a geforce 4 64 MB of SDRAM video card (much better then my other one and runs other games with similar graphics really well.) helicopter and vehicle animation also look superb.
SOUND
I've had some sound problems. Helicopters and running water sound like a buzzing noise in most cases. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it really stands out. One other potentially annoying thing are the taunts your AI teammates yell out with every enemy encounter. The weapon fire and grenade explosions sound pretty good.
CONTROL
The controls for this game are pretty confusing. for most FPS games you move with WSAD and aimed and fired with your mouse. Most of the buttons you use to interact with objects, turn on some illumination, switch weapons, crotch, and other kinds of keystroke commands were built around the WSAD keys or put on the mouse buttons. This game tries to utilize just the basic keys like ENTER and SHIFT. With the Default controls, you interact with doors, equipment, and enemy bodies, you press ENTER. Usually when you're stripping enemies for intel and ammo you might already be in a firefight (if you run out) or may be attacked any second, or it's just plain annoying traveling all the way across the keyboard rather than being an efficient command that is already at your finger tips. Fortunately, you can remap the keys and go through four stages of boot camp covering movement, basic weapons, heavy weapons and grenades, and finally a team deathmatch style assault game to wrap up your education in the controls.
Overall, the gameplay and graphics carry the game. There are some glitches i've encountered where getting out of a particular area was difficult because of terrain that would normally be passable or something like that.
