I debated for a long time about writing a review on The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff. I am a huge fan of The Sims games and expansion packs. Those of you who have read the other reviews I have written on Sims 2 may already know how highly I speak of the game. I really didn't want to write a negative review on The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff. But it is only fair that I share the true experience with you all.
I purchased The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff from Walmart department store here in Rhode Island. I got it in the electronics section of Walmart in the PC game isle. I was at first happy with the price. It was on sale and I only paid $16.99 for it. That was about 2 months or so ago, give or take a little. My daughter was exited. She is also a Sims 2 fan and was dying to get it.
Once home I installed The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff. This was rather simple. Simply insert the disk and click install. Choose the spot you want it to go. Pick the easy install option, or the custom install option. That is up to you. I chose to use the easy install since it puts the game right where the original game is and the other expansion packs are. Which is on my c drive. It took about 4 to 5 minutes to install The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack. Once done it checks for updates and won't finish the install until it does. Be sure your internet is on first so you can do the updates. After that the game is set and ready to go. Oh and remember that the CD key is inside of the cover.
Now I was ready to check out the new stuff it had to offer. You have to click on the last expansion pack installed. So once The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff is installed The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff icon is the only one that runs the game from that point on. Unless you un-install it again, and then the one before that becomes the primary game starter as it was before. I was not impressed with The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack at all. I ended up taking it out of the computer two days later.
In The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack you will see a few new objects. Some that can be used by adults, some that can be used by children and even a few that can be used by toddlers. You get carnival rides. These are for your Sims to have fun with. Unfortunately they run slow and it makes the game stutter or freeze, which until The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack was installed I never had happen before. It ruined the experience for me completely.
The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack also gives you a few wallpapers, floors and decor items. They give you lamps and globe lights. Some new toy boxes, some toys. Nothing great and nothing that makes all real difference to the game. You don't see any change in The Sims people at all. There are no new menu options for the characters in the game. A few new outfits, but not even pretty ones or nice ones. They sort of look like a child created them. A 2 year old child!
I just wasn't happy with it at all. Even for $16.99 it was a waste of money that could have been better spent on some thing else. What upset me the most out of it, was that I do speak fondly of all the other expansion packs and The Sims 2 original game. I was truly expecting The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack to be great. I had my hopes up, as did my daughter. She too was very unhappy that nothing was new and that her game kept freezing before she could save it. Making her have to start all over again on every thing she had done.
For the lousy amount of new items The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack gives you, the way it stops your game from working properly and how little about it is actually new for the game. It just was not what we wanted. The worst thing is that once you have purchased The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack, it is not able to be returned to the store. Most of you already know that games and DVDs can not be returned after being opened. Only exchanged for the exact same thing.
I did get lucky though. I called the company. The refunded me the money with the reason I gave. I pretty much explained what happened to my game, how it messed up the whole game, and told them just what I wrote above about it. They told me they were sorry could have been a glitch in the game. But after speaking to a friend who also purchased it. I found out that she too had the same issues and was also not pleased with The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack. I managed to get my money back.
If you have bought it, and are not happy with it, call the company. The 1-800 number can be found on the Maxis web site, or you can do it by contact information from that page. Also if you are planning on buying The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff expansion pack, my honest opinion is that you will not be thrilled with it and it would not be worth your time at all. I do not recommend it at all.
