An In-depth review on one of the best selling and one of the most critically acclaimed titles on the xbox360. While this game is a massive undertaking with a gigantic beautifully detailed world to explore and countless missions to figure out is it worth all of your time? I will dig deep into the aspects of the game and reveal what I think of Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion for the xbox360.
HDTV Support
Yes
Supports: 480p/720p/1080i
Graphics
95/100
This is one of the most graphically impressive games on the xbox360. It is amazing at all of the lush details that went into making this magical and mystic world. The level of detail will just simply boggle an average gamers mind. Especially if you are playing on a high definition television set. The only problem with the graphics are popup occurs. Popup refers to when graphics that arent there at one point then you get closer and all of a sudden you see the graphics simply popup out of no where. With or without the popup Elder Scrolls 4 presents a breathtaking world just waiting to be explored. The reason this was a 95 and not a 100 was because of the noticeable pop that occurs.
Gameplay
90/100
It takes a little to get use to this gameplay, but not for a veteran gamer of First-person-shooters. If youre a novice it may take a little fooling around or instruction reading time to get the controls down. But, it shouldnt take an extended period of time as the controls are pretty much straight forward.
This also has free do what ever you want gameplay. This means you may steal anything or kill anybody you want. But, dont think there wont be consequences. If are caught stealing or kill someone the town guards will come down on you with an iron fist. When you get caught it will give you an option of paying a fine, going to jail or resisting arrest. You get to make pretty much every choice you want in this game.
You can also purchase a horse for faster travel around the vast world.
Character Selection Process
100/100
This process can get pretty in-depth. As there are many different races and facial adjustments you can make to your character. Of course you can also make a female or male character. There is enough customization There are 10 races you can choose from to include:
1. Argonian- This is a reptilian race.
2. Breton- Relies on magic think of a sorcery race.
3. Dark Elf- Overall noted for combat and destruction magic
4. High Elf- Gifted in Arcane arts of all races
5. Imperial- Warriors
6. Khajiit- Skilled in acrobatics and agility
7. Nord- Highly talented warriors
8. Orc- More heavy armor and weapon warriors
9. Red Guard- Most talented natural warriors
10. Wood Elf- Excellent with the bow
Not only are there those ten races, but when you throw in all of the customization features you can come up with some very unique characters. That would be one of the reasons it would be nice if this game was multiplayer online. To see all of the unique character designs.
Level progression system
90/100
There are 3 ways you can progress your level.
1. Use it over and over. The lower the skill score. The easier it is to increase it by using it. Think of a magic spell or a sword. If you use it over and over it will get stronger and stronger.
2. Buy Skill training from another character.
3. Learn more about the skill from special books.
When you raise a level you are given an opportunity to increase 3 of your 8 attributes. Your HP will receive a gain of 1/10 of your endurance. While your HP will always get the boost you can save up your attribute points if you wish. You will never receive a penalty for this you can save up as many as you wish.
Xboxlive
50/100
Yes and no. Which is why it got a 50. It supports half of xboxlive. It does not support multi-player online, but it does support content download. So this means you will probably be able to down load additional quests, spells, armor, weapons, magic etc
This will of course add to the longevity of this title. Yeah, as if this massive world even needs that. But, hey Im not going to complain it will just be more gaming bliss.
Longevity
100/100
Are you kidding me? With over 200 hours of gameplay if you finish all of the side quests. This is the very definition of longevity. On top of that there is xboxlive support for additional content downloads! This is one of those games that just might never end. If there is not enough gameplay to satisfy your needs here there is no game currently on the store shelves that will.
Bottom Line
Well if you arent willing to give away about 200 hours of your life, I would recommend not even playing a minute of this game. The games story line will suck you in and the graphics and gameplay will simply finish you off. Before you know it youll be 20hrs into the game even though you didnt want to play past 10hrs. Time flies bye while you are playing this game. The sad thing is it seems like time has stopped, but you look at the time and realize how much time you just really invested into a videogame. This is well worth the price of admission. The graphics are breathtaking, the gameplay is solid, the voice acting is well received and the adventure is almost limitless. If you own a xbox360 this game must be in your collection. It really is that good, and if you dont believe me buy it and play it. You will finish it, because you wont be able to put the controller down.
