Forget about Summer fever, GET TETRIS FEVER!

by  ChromeKiller,   Jul 6, 2001

Pros:  Addiction -- and LOTS of it!

Cons:  The game doesn't save when played on the Game Boy Advance.

The Bottom Line:  This is the most addicting puzzle game I've ever played. If you haven't tried Tetris out yet, do it now!

Note: This review is for the original Tetris on the black and white Game Boy. Epinions.com doesn't have a section for the Game Boy version (not that I could find one, anyway), so here's the only place I could really think of posting it.

Puzzle games are what boggle our minds, break our concentration, and what make us curdle up in a corner for more. Tetris is just the best of one out of all of them...

This game was released in 1989 bundled with the Nintendo Game Boy. Not only were you receiving a Game Boy and one of the greatest games of all time, but the hardware also came with a link cable for two player action. What a sweet deal it was! And for hours, the frenzy went world wide. Originally, though, Tetris was released as a computer game over in Russia. This was because the game was created by a Russian. This mastermind's name is Alexey Pajitnov.

The idea of Tetris is to cruise through levels without dying. But to do that, you're going to have to line up walls of differently shaped blocks along the bottom. These pieces are made up of blocks, right and left angles, lines, and Z's. When the pieces form a line, the line will disappear and you will gain points. When enough points hit, the level changes. And thus, the speed of the pieces will move a little faster. Once the higher levels hit, and the pieces come down to fast for you to think, or even amend your mistakes, you're done for.

The gameplay is also very simple. The directional pad will control the movement of the pieces, while the A and B buttons will control the rotation. Once the pieces are at the right angle (no pun intended), then place them down hard. Sometimes, however, you may place pieces in the wrong spot. This resolves in a total mess. To fix the balance, you will need to make lines of where the mishap lays, and dissolve that sucker! With faster levels up above the normal speeds, this puzzler can be the most frustrating, or enjoyable experience you may ever play.

Along with the Single Player and Multiplayer modes, there's also another mode where you can pick any levels you want to play on as sort of a Practice mode. You an also change the music around. There's an A style, a B style, a C style, and even an option to turn the crap...I mean, wonderful little ditty off.

If you own a Game Boy Advance, and you're into Tetris, this is a MUST BUY! Or if you've never even played the game before, you don't know what you're missing out on. And oh yeah, go buy the game, stupid! However, this title is rare, and might be hard to find since it's no longer in production. But with a little luck, and about $20 or more, you can be playing the best puzzle game anywhere on the go!
