Author's Review
First off, let me make it known that this is not an epinion of Tekken 3, but of it's newer more improved version, Tekken Tag Tournament. Tekken 3 was the first version of the series I played, and although it was good, I was raised a Mortal Kombat kinda guy, and I was sure my mind could never be changed, even throughout all of the Soul Caliburs, Primal Rages, Tekkens, Ehrgeiz', etc..Well, smack me around and call me Kazuya Mishima, Tekken Tag Tournament has uprooted my longstanding belief that the MK series would forever reign supreme. In my 19 years, 13 of them being a hardcore gamer, I don't think I've ever been more addicted to one game. Everything great about Tekken 1-3 was bottled up, all the negative aspects flushed out, and now stands in my arcade, a 9 foot tall, 6 foot wide monument of sheer glory.
The characters for one, have all been collected, none left out, and can all (37 if I'm not mistaken) be selected from. All the moves, plus many new ones, new great single and tag combos and heavy damage power hits. All the throws, plus new sidestep and throws from behind have been added for that "damn that looks painful" aura.
Longevity-wise, I honestly don't think I've stayed entranced by one game for as long a period as I have with this. Well maybe with the exception of NFL Blitz 2000 and WM2K. Point being, for an arcade 30 minutes from my house, it takes one hell of a gaming experience to drive there a couple of times a day for one game. I, personally, can't wait for PSx2 to be released so I can fight in the store to get my hands on a copy of this game.
I'd venture to say that the only thing this game is lacking is challenge. Once you get a feel for the moves, the opposing characters, and timing for such a fast paced fighting game, the computer offers virtually no challenge with the exception of the final stage. It is, however, one of the greatest feelings to be in an arcade with a group of regular players who do offer a challenge and get a win streak under your belt.
From the standpoint of any player who loves a pure, addictive, non-watered down fighting formatted game, Tekken Tag Tournament is one of the few and far between which doesn't grow stale after a few plays. If you can fight the crowd and get in on a game at your local arcade, do it today, and experience the joys of this game first hand, trust me, you won't leave dissatisfied.
