Epinions Close-up For Tamron

by  6foot3,  Apr 30, 2002
Pros: Superb optical quality, lightening fast autofocus, low price.
Cons: Plastic feel to construction.
The Bottom Line: A budget lens more than worthy to mount on the front of my wonderful Nikon F100 where it spends it's working life taking 5-star photographs.
Review: In my increasing world of photography, I need lenses to do specific jobs, a 28-200mm lens for general use, a wide-angle zoom for interiors, a 50mm standard lens for backup and a macro lens for close-up photography.
I need them to be cheap as...

Epinions A Great Macro Lens

by  pf_0000,  May 26, 2000
Pros: Great image quality, price
Cons: none
Review: The Tamron 90mm/2.8 Macro Lens is an excellent lens for both macro photography as well as an all-purpose lens. Costing under $400 this lens rivals the equivalent lenses made by Canon and Nikon while costing less than half the price. If you have ever...

Epinions This is NOT an F2.8 lens

by  tomturk,  Nov 6, 2003
Pros: Supersharp, super-lens as photozone.de tests say.
Cons: All the above review comments re f2.8-f5.6 (unless I missed something)..
Review: A few words of caution to all would be buyers of this 'fast', super, reasonably priced lens..... When mounted on the Nikon (F/N80)body, whether in Manual/Aperture or whatever priority, as soon as the distance scale goes BELOW FIFTEEN feet, whether on a ...

Epinions Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Macro for Nikon

by  rais1,  Nov 1, 2003
Pros: Very Sharp Great portrait lens Great Bokeh Very nice manual focusing Beautiful macro photos
Cons: Using flash with matrix metering on D100 quirky Doesn't have a heavy metal feel
The Bottom Line: I'd buy it again. It takes drop dead gorgeous photos! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of flash problem
Review: This Tamron is a great lens. I use it for both portrait work and macro work. I'm using it on a Nikon D100. I have also used it on a Nikon film body. As I was looking for a portrait lens that wouldn't break the bank I decided between this Tamron and t ...

Epinions Can't get any closer

by  Russhoolio,  Jun 17, 2000
Pros: VERY close focus
Cons: auto focus a bit touchy
Review: I bought this lens primarily for use as a portrait lens. I liked its shallow depth of field. While I have found it to be pretty good in the portrait category; I found its greatest virtue to be its close up abilities. I am able to focus about an and...
