With a title like "Super Puzzle Fighter" one would half expect some sort of oddly mishappen super-heroes shaped like puzzle pieces fighting one another but to my surprise that is not what I got. Well OF COURSE I didn't think that but hey you never know what crosses a person's mind until you walk a mile in one's mind. Now lets get back to the game. The only word to describe this game is ADDICTIVE! Oodles of fun played with others or alone against the computer.
The irresistible and addictive game of fast paced strategy combines elements of STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 2 and NIGHT WARRIORS in the most compelling puzzle game ever created. One or two players battle in a fiercely competitive, head-to-head challenge that's totally outrageous.
Opponents compete by stacking gem after gem in strategic patterns and color combinations. When special Crash Gems drop and are positioned to break the gems on one side of the screen, more gems are sent to descend on the weary foe. With combination and counter attacks, it's a fast-paced, back and forth contest until one side is overwhelmed in a final KO.
This game seems simple but underneath the comical facade there lies a multitude of playing styles to be used that keeps one playing this game over and over again. Well let me categorize them as follows :
(1) THE CHAOTIC DROPPER - a player who drops the gems as fast as he/she can, without putting the gems in any specific place. Due to the randomness of this style, games are typically inconsistent.
(2) COUNTER GEM DROPPER - A player who takes into account the counter gem pattern of the opponent, and puts the gems in the same place as the counter gems will fall.
(3) POWER GEM from the START - A player who arranges the first 3 or 4 sets of gems given, then looks at them to see which two colors are on the screen the most at the moment. You then arrange your gems so that you are putting non-usable gems to the side, and only concentrating on the two chosen colors.
For each playing style there exist a multiple combinations of counter attacks, then there is total luck. When you are almost defeated the miraculous can happen, the proper placement of one block can shift a defeat to a victory! This is one of the little quirks that makes this game even more interesting and amusing. Also adding a humorous element, young versions of the classic characters act out the fight as players battle. As characters' wild super combos erupt and could distract you if you don't stop from laughing your gut.
This is a MUST have for play amongst friends - imagine a Tournament De Puzzle Fighter. Think of the possibilities.
