Author's Review

Soul Calibur 2 is the newest fighting video game for all three major gaming systems. It includes intense game play with a long and twisting story with a cast of characters to make you smile, laugh, or on the other side of the scale, be fearful. The battle system is intricate with its arcade style but not impossible to master. It is great with its many different modes of play to keep you going for a long time. There are also tons of items to collect, including over 200 different weapons, character profiles, and costumes. The images and sounds will keep you interested for weeks on end. Plus i dont know about you but i love Link! Im glad the picked him to be the special guest character for the gamecube version. IF you really like an arcade fighting game, get this, but if you more into things of a less sutile nature, you may want to at least wait untill the price tag goes down before you get this game. I hope this review helps you!

Update:

Like ive metioned on my other articles, I am coming back to update my articles to help make them better.

Ill explain how the game works. Using the gamecube control every character has the basics. Pressing A will do a horizontal slash. This helps you attack characters when the try to move behind you becasue you get more coverage on your swing. Pressing Y will cause your character to do vertical slashes. This helps you when the opposing character jumps and ducks. Also there is more of a tendency for your more powerful moves to revovle around Y. X do kicking moves which helps you get in a quiker blow. This is espically helpfull for those who's character use large weapons and are slower in attacking. B is used to block, and while you block, you can junp and duck. The Z button is used to Soul carge which powers up attacks and can activate certain weapons speical abilities. You can also grab by pressing A + B together. Depending from which side of the oppenet you preform the grab decides the move you do. Note that this game is based on characters with weapons. Every charcter in the Gamecube version uses some sort of weapon. Some examples are swords, axes, staffs, nun chucks, and halbreds.

THere are many difrent stages in this game. There are egyptian stages, battle arenas, ship yards, and cage matches for arenas. You can even change certain things about the arene in certain cases (like there size, shape, walls, etc...) to make things m ore interesting. Every character has at least 70 diffrrent sound effects and taunts. Every character has a unique fighting sytle and weapon to keep things interesting. There are even over 200 weapons with diffrent abilities ranging from self healing, speed enhances, and offence and defence increses. Not to metion each one looks different to make the game more interesting. Each character also has 6 different costumes you can earn, and out of the few i have gotten so far, they can be very cool. Even though that dont make your character stronger or faster, the just make thing more interesting.

This game also includes a long story line or weapons master mode which has 10 "chapters" with at least 3 levels. The task you have to master varies from hiting an enemy so many time, killing them by ring out, or automaticly lossing if you hit the ground. Note there are mnay other circumstatnces that you will have to deal with. You gain experince and money to buy new things for your characters as you progress through the game. There are also sub chapters, dugeon like levels, and bonus chapters and missions you can unlock. After you beat the game once, your missions are shown as incompleted and ever level is upgraded in difficulty for you to do again! So if you had to kill your opponents in a certain time limit, they made it so you have to beat them in the same time WHILE the recover there health!!! This can get trick, but i beat it all. You will get stuck, annoyed, and maybe want to punch your controller threw the wall, but you will get by it and you will feel great when you have beaten everything. There are also 7 other modes of game play with different levels of play. You can also get diffrent options within those modes, like the ability to use the weapons you have earned.

I hope this helps.
