Epinions Very nice features for a entry-level receiver

by  kickstop,  Jul 6, 2002
Pros: Low price, excellent display, source renaming
Cons: Lack of ProLogicII, remote layout, durability (?)
The Bottom Line: I'd highly recommend this receiver for people on a budget and don't mind possible durability issues later on. (Techies looking for excuse to upgrade later, rejoice!)
Review: This receiver was my first DD/DTS receiver, and I was very happy with how it performed. The physical dimension of the receiver is shorter than others, which may be a blessing for people short on space.

The display on the receiver is...

Epinions Worth every penny, great for a smaller room.

by  Shiroth,  Dec 24, 2001
Pros: Sounds great, price is right, DTS decoding.
Cons: Could use more digital inputs.
The Bottom Line: This is a great entry-level/smaller room/second room receiver. The features belie the low price point.
Review: As I sit here in my bedroom, I cast a warm glance at my STR-DE475 Receiver. I realize that for the money, it's the best receiver I have ever bought. Dolby Digital, DTS, auto-switching, sound fields, and quality, for only $160? Sound impossible? Not any...

Epinions The Perfect Receiver For Almost Any Home Theater System

by  workscorp,  Nov 22, 2001
Pros: Just about everything, especially price
Cons: No S-video hookups
The Bottom Line: Seems you can't go wrong with this receiver, unless you must have S-video inputs.
Review: How This Receiver Has Performed

I couldn't be happier with the performance of my Sony receiver. It sounds incredible, has plenty of features and cost a fraction of comparably equipped units. It does everything I need except video...

Epinions Excellent choice for entry level

by  subspace,  Jul 20, 2001
Pros: Sound quality, AC3 and DTS 24 bit decoding, control layout
Cons: No S video connectors, no remote light, no FM signal strength
The Bottom Line: Excellent sounding cost effective receiver for entry to mid level systems if you can live without S video connectors.
Review: I bought this as a second system for my PC which has a DVD player and a Real Magic Hollywood+ DVD card with AC3 and DTS digital output. I just have some old ADS L300 bookshelf speakers for the mains, and some el-cheapo KLH center and surrounds (and no...

by  mscott,  Jan 3, 2002
Pros: Solid, quaility, great sound; great price for what you get.
Cons: No switched power outlet for other components (like for your SW)
The Bottom Line: Unless you want to peel the paint of the walls (and destroy your hearing), you'll be very happy with this unit!
Review: Little by little I had been replacing my old home theatre system. First went the center channel speaker that came with my old system; then the front speakers. Recently I bought some B-I-C America in-wall speakers (recommended) to replace the rear...

by  jac33,  Aug 21, 2001
Pros: Feature packed, Easy to set up, and inexpensive for having DTS.
Cons: No "S" Video Input
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend this receiver for anyone that doesn't want to have to upgrade anytime soon. It has tons of features, it's durable, and the quality is excellent.
Review: I looked around a lot before buying a receiver, mainly because I didn't want to buy a receiver that didn't have DTS, but was still under $300. Sony delivered, and provided a receiver that is full of usable features.

The great thing about this...

The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a reasonably priced receiver with Dolby Theater Sound, then this is the unit for you.

Pros: Entry-Level Features; Good Tuner; Well Made; Easy To Use
Cons: Lack Of Digital Inputs; No S-Video Inputs
The Bottom Line: Budget end of home cinema, the Sony STRDE475 meets with competition but could be worth it
Review: In July I reviewed a Kenwood KRF-5050 receiver, it was a bargain, Dolby Digital and DTS processing, loads of features and a great sound performance, all for £180. However over the last few months I have had my eye on the UK Home Cinema market, and what...
