still a GREAT pda...more than adequate for 90% of users
Pros:
HUGE screen, 16MB, fast processor, MP3 player, keyboard*, camera*
Cons:
bulky, keyboard*, camera*
(*=depends on personal tastes)
The Bottom Line:
an exceptional value, if you can still find one. especially worth considering if you are using a low-res/greyscale device

the extra large screen is the main reason i chose the nr70v over palm's offerings. i like to read books on it, and once you're used to a hi-res clie, there's no going back to 160x160 or 320x320
16MB memory is proly enough for most users; if not, you can always get a memory stick. if you do need a memory stick, replace the default launcher with ZLauncher (http://www.zztechs.com) or something similar so you can move applications to the memory stick and save RAM
the 66MHz dragonball is no longer the fastest processor, but it is still quite capable. compared to the new 200/400MHz models, the nr70v is noticeably slower to launch an application, but otherwise the speed difference isn't that great. however, some of the newest applications require a faster processor and simply won't run on the nr70v. do your homework before buying and make sure you don't want/need a program that is OS5-specific
for music on the go, the built-in MP3 player is all you need. it's simple, intuitive, and free. plan to stock up on memory sticks if you want to listen to a lot of music, as the 16MB RAM won't last long
i have mixed feelings about the keyboard and camera. i prefer to enter text with graffiti, so the keyboard is useless to me. the buttons are kinda small. in its favor, the keyboard has nice tactile feedback, and just about any character is readily accessible with a single or combination keypress
the camera is more of a gimmick than anything. it was really cool when this unit was brand new, and there was nothing else like it. however, the meager resolution is embarassing compared to current digital cameras. don't buy this pda expecting to use it as your primary digital camera; you can get a better camera for less than $100. the camera on this pda is good for adding pictures of the people in your address book, but that's about it
my only real complaint about this model is its size. it's definitely not the most "pocketable" palm-based pda (it is about the same length as the average windows-based pocketpc, but slimmer). this would have been the perfect pda if sony had done away with the entire keyboard "wing", the camera, and put the standard palm buttons beneath the screen where the hinge is located. that one minor quibble aside, this is the best $300 i've spent in a long time
