Big Headphones, Big Sound

I wear them in our loft condo when I'm watching TV/movies while my wife is working or sleeping. Comfort is my first priority (I may wear them for hours on end), sound dynamics are a close second.

Background and Purchase
The RS130s are a replacement for my infrared wireless headsets that were purchased five years ago. I happened upon the Dell website just before the holidays when the RS130 was offered at a deep discount. I jumped on the deal, and the phones were delivered in two days.

The packaging is standard; cardboard and plastic wrap. (Glad not to see styrofoam.) The rechargeable batteries (supplied) must be installed upon first use. The directions are a little ambiguous. I didn't realize that the battery compartment had to be accessed by twisting one of the earpieces until I studied the diagram a little more carefully. I set up the cradle (AC adapter cord) and left the system to charge overnight and all next day.

The charging system is built right into the headset cradle. It is easily align; the headset's grooves match perfectly with the metal rails. You can also confirm positive contact with the LED at the front of the base station.

The RS130 comes with an RCA cord (Left and Right), and an adapter to convert the plug to standard inputs.

Using the RS130

The RS130s are big; maybe twice or thrice as big as my old Sonys. But, they don't weigh much more. With all the padding, the over-ear design is quite comfortable. I have worn it for a little over three hours with no complaints.

Range is very good. I have been able to maintain acceptable sound at all corners of our condo (ranging from 5 ft to 35 ft away from the base station).

I have been impressed by the robust bass and the clarity of the sound. I haven't done any critical listening, but I wouldn't use this unit for serious listening in any case. For general AV, including home theatre, use, this unit does the job well.
