OVERHEATS

I read another review on this site about someone complaining about their laptop shutting down with no warning. This is because the processor overheats. It shuts down so that the heat doesn't ruin the processor completely (until it happens too many times).

This is not a 'Lap'top, and not just because of the size and weight. If you use it in your lap (or carpet, blanket, ect.), it will overheat within 5 minutes. It has 2 fans on the bottom (which I did not see when I bought it), and it heats up when they do not have a 1/2 inch or so between the bottom of the laptop and what it's sitting on. Within a couple months of when I got it, it was overheating even on hard surfaces. I went through a couple cooling pads before I found one that did a decent job. The computer then worked for normal operation, but if I did any heavy video (i.e. rip or burn DVD, edit camcorder video), it would overheat even on the cooling pad. After overheating too many times, it died and I got the 'blue screen of death' when I tried to restart it. It is now in for repair.

Even though I like most of the things about this laptop, I gave it 2 stars because I would not purchase it again. I did not realize that the 2 fans on the bottom were so critical in cooling the unit, and I would like to be able to use a laptop on my lap.


If you're looking for something that will replace your desktop, this is a fine machine. But if you're looking for something to take with you or around the house, look elsewhere. If you do get this laptop, get a warranty also (I'm glad I did).
