Everybody has heard of Rocky. And for the 4% of you out there who haven't, I'll explain the rocky story very briefly. Rocky Balboa is an up and coming boxer from the streets of Philadelphia. He is given a once in lifetime chance when world champion Apollo Creed decides to give the itallion stallion a title shot. Rocky loses but becomes famous, and from there four excellent movies followed continuing the story of rocky. The game follows all the events that happened in the movie in chronological order. You start off from the streets and work your way up.
the graphics in this game are not bad, but nothing that will blow your mind like say metroid prime or F-Zero. when this game first came out almost 2 years ago, I thought the graphics were great, but over time the graphics have really started to show their age. there still very enjoyable, but like I said, not the prettiest. Alot of detail was put into this game. During the fight you get bruises and bloody, instead of just looking tired or something. You can actually make out people in the audience. Cameras flash and each boxer even has a snazzy
little entrance. the sound wasn't too good. You think they would have done a better job on the sound considering music was a big part of the rocky movies appeal with such classic songs as Flying high now ( The theme song from Rocky 1) or eye of the tiger ( theme song from Rocky 3). These songs didn't make much of an appearance in the game, maybe for legal reasons or just that the developers were too lazy to do too much with these songs. However, the sound isn't the worst sound possible. It detracts a little from the game, but really is just a small part of a great big package. The controls are where the biggest problems lie. They just don't make any sense. I would press a button that was supposed to do a right hook, instead I stand there and take the hit. When i try to block I stand there. even when the controls do work and I manage to land a punch, the opponent seems to go on a crazy rampage and pretty much finish up the match right there. At first, i thought my controller was broken so i borrowed a friends and had the same problem, so it wasn't the controller causing all the problems, but instead a really bad control scheme. The story is very general and follows the movies pretty much detail for detail... if you make it past the first few opponents and somehow get into the rythem of the
control set up so you can make it far enough to see these details. Overall, I saw this game as kind of incomplete but with a lot of potential that could have made it a great game if this potential was capitalized on.
