I purchased this ice cream maker to replace the aging salton cosmopolitan ice cream maker that I purchased back in the 70's. My plan was to use it to make soy milk ice deserts instead of dairy ice cream. I quit eating dairy foods back in the mid 1980's when I learned that the borden company used cow's milk to make elmer's glue all....and when I also learned that this gluey byproduct of milk (casein) is what clogs people's sinuses. .
Anyways, the salton machine was doing a fair job of making soy milk frozen desert, so I figured that this bigger and more robust machine would do even better. However, there was a problem from the outset when I noticed that the stir paddle was going in what appeared to be the wrong direction. It's suppose to turn in a direction where the cutting edge of the blades of the paddle are leading, but for some reason it was going the other way with the rounded side of the blades leading. I did'nt think that much of it at the time so I let the machine run for the specified 40 minute limit and then I returned with my hungry stomach hoping to dig in to a tasty treat. But what I discovered was that there was about a quarter of an inch wall of soy milk ice that had formed around the wall of the mixing pot...and the remainder of the pot was liquid soy milk. The quarter of an inch ice wall was so hard that it would have taken a jackhammer or a small stick of dynamite to have dislodged it so it could be eaten!
The basic problem here seems to be that the paddle blades decided to turn in the wrong direction. Since I know electronics I will probably end up rigging another small motor inside the unit, perhaps one that operates on dc so that it's direction can be controlled, but that's just because I enjoy experimenting around and this will save me a trip back to the store to replace the unit or get my money back.
