Let me go way back.... (like I'm so old now) But when I was first introduced to these deep frying do-dads, I was just about 10 years old, when my mother came home with something she thought would make her cooking more simple. It was a very small square shaped fryer with a basket that sunk all the way under the oil. It was like a miniature McDonald’s deep fryer. (and I do mean Miniature)... Well...
We've come a long way since those days, haven't we???

Once I was an adult and living on my own, I thought I'd find one, but they didn't make them like that old fashioned one anymore. I had bought the "Fry Daddy" fryers. I loved it... The only problem with those fry daddy's were, that they got HOT HOT HOT... (Aren’t they supposed to?) Well, you had to wait for quite a while before you could put the lid back on it, to store it away. The lid was just a simple plastic lid sort of like a Tupperware lid... You could warp or melt that thing quickly, if you didn't wait long enough. Well.... I've recently gotten an EVEN BETTER Fryer.... I know, I know, "You've used one fryer, you've used them all" Well, I don't think I can agree with that statement.

The Rival Chef's Fry Deep Fryer is not only an attractive addition to anyone’s kitchen, but it heats up quickly. It has a little red light that comes on when the fryer is plugged in. At least you can't forget that you've left it plugged in, right? The fryer itself holds about 6 cups of oil, and it's got a double coated non-stick coating inside. It wipes off easily when you clean it. The exterior of the fryer is cool to the touch.

The fryer also comes with a plastic spoonish type of thing with the holes in it, but I have to say, even though the idea of that so that it won't scratch the non-stick surface of the inside of the fryer, I don't use that because it's rather flimsy... That's really the only part of the fryer that I don't like.

The lid is a hard type of plastic Gray in color, and it just snaps on or off easily. It's not flexible, and is less likely to melt or warm as fast as the old "fry daddy" type of lids did.

This particular fryer does NOT have a handle, but instead it has a cool to the touch plastic (fairly wide) rim all the way around it. This way even if the fryer is still pretty warm, you can wipe it down, put the lid on it, and carry it away or store it away. You won't burn or melt anything.

The Rival fryer has a power cord with a magnetic type of connection. I have to admit, until I got used to it, I was fighting with it, thinking it had to actually click into place.... I was not too happy with that, but now I see that it's for safety purposes, it's got the prongs, but it's mostly magnetic. It does, however, disconnect fairly easy, but as long as you keep your fryer close enough to the outlet, and you don't try to move your fryer around while you are using it, I don't think you will find much problem with that, it's just a matter of getting used to it.

I think the thing I make most in this fryer is of course french fries, or chicken fingers. When you have a son who is a picky eater, and a husband just like him. Fries are on the menu often in my house. This fryer has made my job cooking quick and easy for these picky eaters of mine.
Thanks Rival. You have outdone the Fry Daddy!!! If I had to buy another fryer, I'd buy this one all over again!
