Author's Review

I just bought this deep fryer the other day at the Post Exchange, so I will have paid a little less than retail and without tax. I have never owned a deep fryer, so I have nothing to compare this to. I was looking for a deep fryer that wasn't top of the line, nor an El Cheapo. What I found was this, priced ten dollars above the Presto Cool Daddy fryer.

I took it home, set it up, and read the instructions. I then cut up a whole chicken, and set it in buttermilk to begin frying my very first chicken in a deep fryer. I followed the instructions in the book (15-18 minutes at 375F) and I burned the dark meet. I then put the breasts in for ten minutes, almost burned them, took them out, and took a bit into some undercooked chicken.

Now, I realize I'm no pro with deep fryers, but there is no way the guide they published with this is correct.

So, for the part you actually care about. The machine works. It regulates temperature so it automatically adjusts when you throw in that bag of frozen mozzerella sticks.

It's stylish, economical, and functional.

I got a comment suggesting that I discuss the controls and features. Here goes nothing...

There is one control. It is a temperature gauge accompanied by a signal light. If the light is on, the unit is heating. If the light is off, the unit is either off or has reached the desired cooking temperature. It's so easy to use, even an IU graduate could figure it out.

It is easy to clean, as well. There is a removable "heating element" which is submerged into a porcelain container filled with oil. There is a lid with a plastic handle and a basket with a plastic handle. The basket is small and not recommended for breaded/battered items as the guide says the breading will stick. Best just to fry those without the basket and save it for your crab rangoons (mmmm...crab rangoons).
