Terrific griddle for any meal

by  aechl,   Dec 7, 2007

Pros:  Huge cooking surface for your griddle needs. Nonstick works well.

Cons:  Scrambled eggs don't really work on it. So big, it's tricky to store.

The Bottom Line:  If you are looking for a good electric griddle with a large capacity, this is a really good choice, and it is not very pricey.

When we were looking for a good electric griddle to make our love of big weekend breakfasts easier, we decided upon the Presto Cool Touch 7034 Griddle and could not have been happier.

The Specs

The thing is big, sporting a 10-1/2" x 20-1/2" cooking surface.

It is made out of heavy cast aluminum (which provides even heating), with an easy to clean non-stick surface.

Control of the temperature is easy, which a simple dial. From 200 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, 50 degrees at a time. The temperature is automatically maintained during cooking.

As the name suggests, the casing of the griddle is cool to the touch when operating.

You can remove the heat controller, and then the griddle is immersible and dishwasher safe.

There is a removable drip tray, and the whole griddle tilts slightly towards it, so your food doesn't sit in fat.

The instruction booklet a handy chart telling you what temperatures work best for different foods.

What can you use it for?

We use ours for breakfast (pancakes, fried eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, etc), for lunch (grilled cheese), and dinner (burgers!).

I will say that scrambled eggs are a bit difficult on it, because of the slight tilt, you have to use a spatula to keep them on the griddle before they start to cook up and solidify a bit - otherwise they just run off the side and right into the drip tray. Not fun.

Any negatives?

It is JUMBO, and wouldn't fit in most standard cabinets, so you have to find some other way of storing it.

The scrambled egg dilemma is a bit annoying.

Some spots seem a little hotter than others, but it doesn't really make a huge difference. Might bug you if you are a perfectionist.

We like this griddle so much, we bought the same one for my parents. They love it too. We have absolutely gotten our money's worth, and more.
