Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team - Nintendo DS
INTRODUCTION
Last year I got a Nintendo DS at my birthday and I was looking for a pokemon game for it, as I have all the other GBA and GBC Pokemon games because I LOVE Pokemon. But sadly, there were no Pokemon games that I didn't already have! Then, at Christmas, I got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team. I think it's really good but it wasn't as good as some of the earlier Pokemon games.
YOUR POKEMON
The game begins with you getting a personality test. Answer this test truthfully and you'll get a Pokemon that matches youre personality. For example: I said that I am quite lonely (which I am) so I got Cubone - the lonely pokemon.
Once you have taken the personality test you will be asked to pick a partner pokemon. This Pokemon will soon become your friend and will stick by you all through the game.
After this, your will then wake up. Then you will find out that you are a human and not a Pokemon. The pokemon you chose as your partner will talk to you and then a butterfree will come and ask for your help. You will then go on your first rescue mission together.
RESCUE MISSIONS
There are thousands of rescue missions to do and lots of dungeons to visit. The first dungeon is really easy. It is called Tiny Woods. There are only three floors and the Pokemon are all really easy to beat. It's a great place to train new team members.
In order to go on rescue missions you have to:
1. Go to your mailbox, which is right outside your house, or go to the bulletin board outside the Post Office.
2. Look for rescue jobs that you can do. There are lots of ranks of jobs. They all give you different amounts of rescue points (see RANKS below). E gives you 5, D gives you 20, C gives you 40 and so on. These sometimes change depending on the dungeon.
3. Then go into Job List and take the jobs you are going to be doing before going into the dungeon.
4. Enter the required dungeon. Make sure you are ready before going.
RANKS
There are 7 ranks:
1. Normal (0-49 rescue points)
2. Bronze (50-499 rescue points)
3. Silver (500-1499 rescue points)
4. Gold (1500-2999 rescue points)
5. Platinum (3000-7499 rescue points)
6. Diamond (7500-14999 rescue points)
7. Lucario (15000+ rescue points)
I am currently on the bronze rank (I just started a new game) but I will soon be on the silver rank as I've got 40 points!
OTHER TEAMS
There are several other teams. The main ones are Alakazam and Gengar's teams. They are in the game a lot of the time. Gengar's team are bad guys. They are trying to achieve world domination by recruiting people through a rescue team. Alakazam's team are the good guys. They are a gold team and are well known throughout the Pokemon world! Once you have defeated Rayquaza (the last boss) you can fight some of the other rescue teams at the Mukuhita Dojo.
MAIN STORY
The main story is that you have become a Pokemon (but you don't know why or how). You discover that there have been many natural disasters in the Pokemon world recently and so you decide to start a rescue team with your partner Pokemon. You later discover that you may be a terrible terrible Pokemon trainer who was meant to have a curse but your Pokemon sacrificed itself for you but you just ran away! The Pokemon then start to think that you are the reason that the Natural Disasters are occurring and so chase you. Then...
...well that's all I've managed to get passed so far. I might add to this later as I progress through the game but I don't want to spoil the story for anyone!
REASONS FOR RATINGS
Here are the reasons for my ratings. This review was copied from Ciao. I used the ratings Ciao ask you for below!
Playability & Enjoyment - A good game - playable and enjoyable
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is easy to play and I have found it very enjoyable. It's like none of the previous Pokemon games. I thinks it's much better.
Addictiveness - Compulsive
I spent days playing it when I first got it. It's really addictive.
Originality - Not bad - some good ideas
As I've said, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is like no other Pokemon game but it is like some other action and adventure games. Also, the Pokemon are all the same as the Ruby/Sapphire games for the Game Boy Advanced!
Graphics - Excellent
The graphics in this game are wonderful! Although the Nintendo DS screen is tiny the graphics are still good quality. They are definitely better than previous Pokemon games.
Sound - Not bad - needs improving
The sound isn't that bad but it does get annoying when you're stuck in the middle of a dungeon and you're trying to concentrate!
Difficulty & Complexity - Quite a simple not too complicated game
The game is rather easy but some parts are a little tricky. You need to do a lot of training before you can enter some dungeons.
Value for money - Good value
I think that the game is really good value. It's only £20-30 and the game lasts for a while!
Longevity/Expected Longevity
I have been playing the game a lot since lat Christmas and I expect to still be playing it this Christmas.
I recommend this game to anyone who likes adventure games or Pokemon games. It's really fun and addictive!
