My daughter's first gameboy arrived today, along with Pokemon Blue, the first game she has requested. She was absolutely thrilled when she walked in the door and hasn't stopped playing it since!
It took seconds to get the game going: simply sliding the cartridge into the Game Boy, slipping in two AA batteries (which came with the Game Boy thankfully or I would have been running to the market for batteries instantly!).
She began playing without the use of the Pokemon Trainer's Guide which came with the game because she had played it on friend's units before. When I showed her the manual, she flipped to the descriptive map and immediately said "Oo..I'm going to Vermillion Forest"!.
I can see that the game is very easy to navigate (button and directional wise) and the music is not really TOO annoying, mom! But, as those car trips get longer and longer, a wonderful feature to remember is that there is an adjustable volume feature on Gameboy.
I did quite a bit of comparison shopping before purchasing Pokemon Blue (along with Game Boy and the Worm Light) online at Etoys.com.
Although Etoys and Toys-R-Us had the same prices, Etoys was offering a special coupon this month for a percentage off the bill. The total was $113.00 for everything, which was knocked down to $92 after the coupon, a savings of $21!
As with any addictive toys, there will be limits as to how many hours and how long she can play..but for now, I'm going to let her absorb herself into this fantastic game for a while longer-then it's homework time!
