Not nearly as functional as Plantronics wired headsets

This is for the Plantronics 510S, 510SL, and 510SLplus, which differ only in available accessories.

Cliff Notes version of my review: Poorly functioning piece of equipment. If you have one of those office phones that won't take regular consumer phone headsets, consider all other options before choosing this.

I'm on the phone for work all the time. I type about 10 times faster than I write, so I have to have my hands free. I wanted to be able to walk 100 feet to my office printer without putting people on hold, and 6 months ago, this headset seemed like a good option. It's not.

My job has me on my office phone at least 6 hours every business day. I've owned and used daily this bluetooth headset for 6 months now. I talk to lots of people on cell phones, but even when people aren't on cell phones, they can't hear me. There are controls on the base unit that are supposed to help, but no adjustment has ever provided a permanent solution. I keep having to cup my hands in front of my mouth while I'm talking so that my voice is directed to the microphone. And last week the set started to crackle fairly often -- when I'm sitting only 2 feet from the base -- so I'm starting to have to switch to my handset shortly after beginning the conversation so I can hear. If you're going to pay $200-$400 for a headset, it needs to have these technology issues resolved.

I will say that, prior to purchasing this wireless headset, I used and was pleased with Plantronics' wired over-the-head dual-ear headsets for years. That's why I gave them a try on this bluetooth headset.

So, I suppose the decision is the irritation factor: which are you more irritated by, repeating yourself all the time and asking your caller to do the same, or having to pause or stop the conversation because of a lack of office mobility?

I'll take the mobility hassles; this headset is worth neither the price nor the irritations.
