Avoid Philips

Pros: Visually, attractive. Significant effort was made "making it look good.”

Cons: Popping rear speakers, remote control failure, gentle hum, extremely slow and unresponsive, random power downs

Quality of design and construction is a big problem (system sent back for service twice during warranty period with lists of problems). When returning the system a third time for service (Philips had still failed to fix their annoying "feature" of the system turning itself off by itself), Philips would not honor their warranty even though the auto-turn off issue was reported and unresolved during the 1 year warranty period.  Avoid.
