Look no further. Awesome shaver!

by  scragglebeard,   Jan 3, 2005

Pros:  Fast, powerful, efficient, and easy to clean. The newest model is very quiet!

Cons:  None so far.

The Bottom Line:  Overall, an excellent shaver for the money. No irritation, no razor burn, and especially great results with a pre-shave lotion or gel.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

I got this shaver for Christmas. My Son, thou hast found the Holy Grail. How much is a good shave worth to you? Especially with no irritation, and zero razor burn? This Panasonic is a wet/dry shaver that gives me spectacular results when I use Williams Lectric Shave, which almost everybody recommends. I read that some people use Edge Gel with this shaver, but you don't want to use too much foam because you want a close shave. You can rinse the Panasonic off under running water, or shave with it in the shower. It recharges in 1 hour. Go get it!

I have a difficult beard, with stubble growing every which way, flat-lying neck hairs and stubborn ingrown hairs from 20 years of switching back and forth from Norelco's to blade shaving to Remingtons and back again. Lift and cut systems and double-blade razors always have the very disturbing side effect of causing ingrown hairs / pimples / razor bumps, because the hair is lifted, cut, and retracts below the skin surface, tending to curl and grow inward. Not so with this shaver! Most of my ingrown hairs are gone. And I am without razor burn for the first time in two decades.

Beginning in November I read hundreds of reviews here at Epinions, over at Target.com, Amazon.com, and various electric shaver sites, and this shaver overall got the best reviews, so I put it on my "wish list" and my wife bought it for me. Through weeks of research (and my own past experience)I found that Remingtons don't shave well at all...Norelco's have quality-control problems, don't get rid of razor bumps and in fact contribute to them... Braun's top-of-the-line models give an excellent shave at first but FALL APART very quickly, and replacement foils and shaver heads are EXPENSIVE. So...I went with the Panasonic. My wife paid $120 at Best Buy.

This nifty high-speed shaver has a foil in front and back to get your stubble, plus a 30-degree-angled oscillating blade in the middle to get the longer hairs and the ingrowns. You must hold the shaver at a 90-degree angle to your face for the best shave, and if your beard is as stubborn as mine, you will have to go back-and-forth over certain areas (like the neck and jawline) a few times to get it all. Par for the course with any shaver. In fact, my ingrowns were SO bad, I experimented a little and discovered you can GENTLY use the pop-up sideburn trimmer to whack off whatever ingrown or flat-lying hairs the shaver might miss on your neck. If you try this, press GENTLY, make sure your neck is lubed with Williams or Edge, and glide the trimmer blade PARALLEL to your neck skin, against the direction of the offending whisker(s) to lop it off. Works for me, but I would recommend caution in using this maneuver for any guy with large razor bumps or pimples, lest you nick yourself. I STILL got no irritation, but my razor bumps are almost gone now.

This is simply the best electric shaver out there, bar none. Toss those blades in the trash, do not settle for an inferior electric, save up $100 and get this shaver!
