Author's Review
I haven't had a lot of luck with blenders in my lifetime. The first one I bought didn't last more than a few weeks before I came home to a smoking blender and a guilty-looking roommate. I bought a second one, and before long it met the same fate (this time, however, I was the culprit). When I married, I found that my husband had this Oster blender. At first I was afraid to touch it, for fear it also would pick up a smoking habit, but after hearing my husband speak longingly of that melon juice that he likes so much, I decided to give it a try. Gingerly, I put it on it's lowest setting and prepared for the worst. No Smoke! I watched it a while, then got a little braver. Gradually, I moved it all the way up to Blend, and still...no smoke. After making his melon juice for a few months, I decided to get really brave and try grinding some coffee beans (I was too cheap to go out and buy a separate coffee grinder). It blended them perfectly!
I have now been using my Oster blender for nearly three years, and I couldn't be happier. It comes with low and high buttons. Using the low button, you have a choice of stir, puree, chop, whip, and mix. Using the high button you have a choice of grate, blend, grind, liquefy, and ice crush.
There are a couple of things that you will want to be aware of if you are planning on buying this blender. First of all, the plastic pitcher scratches easily. Secondly, when you are putting it together, you will want to make sure to put that little rubber ring in the right place at the bottom of the pitcher, or you will end up with a sticky mess covering your counter.
All-in-all, I would recommend this blender to anyone who is thinking about buying one, especially if you have as bad of a record with blenders as I had.
