Author's Review
I purchased this monitor today for $399 at my local Costco. If you've read my other reviews, you've probably noticed that nearly everything I write a review of ranges from a fair price to an insane bargain. The lowest price I found for a new one, in stock, was $775 plus shipping. And the shipping would be expensive, since this weighs 59 pounds bare, 75 pounds with the packaging.
This ranks near the top on my list of bargain finds.
Nokia recently sold their monitor division to Viewsonic. I suspect the bargain price is just to clear out inventory.
You can see their specs here: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/crt_nokia_445pro.cfm
This is a 21" (19.6" viewable) Sony Trinitron tube, with a .24 AG pitch. That means the dots are very close together, which makes monitors nicer to look at. Like all Trinitrons, it's got two lines visible on the screen due to the way it's made. I've never owned a Trinitron before, but I find them barely noticeable, and I hear you notice it even less over time. The screen is perfectly flat, no curve to it at all.
The maximum resolution is 1800x1440@80Hz. I'm running mine at 1280x1024@100Hz. It should be able to run flicker-free at any usable resolution.
The text is crisp, colors great, and the on-screen display is easy to use and navigate.
It comes with a 3 year manufacturers warranty. The box includes a detachable standard VGA cable to attach to your PC, a power cord, and an adapter to use it on a Macintosh. There is also a cd with monitor profiles for windows, and some setup/diagnostic software.
Since it's a 21", it's rather large. I will have to completely re-organize my desk area to accomodate it, even though it's replacing a 19" (Viewsonic PS790). It occupies a space about 20"x20"x20", which is less than some other 21" monitors.
Overall, I am 100% satisfied with it. Although it's worth the retail price of $800+, I wouldn't be able to own it at that price.
