Nikon EN-EL3e Li-Ion Nikon Battery great...but...

The Nikon EN-EL3e Battery is wonderful on the D80(the camera I presently use). It allows a full day of shooting jobs like weddings without having to change batteries. It will easily take 500 shots with the camera left in the "on" position 6-8 hours.

The internal battery meter on the Nikon D80 keeps an accurate reading on the battery level and is a big improvement over the older D70 setup(still a great camera), where very little notice was given before the battery lost all power.

The new Nikon EN-EL3e battery allows a more accurate update on power level while shooting.

The battery is fully charged in about an hour and a half after being fully discharged. This battery can be topped off before being completely drained without the damaging "memory effect" of older NiCads.

The only down side to this battery that I can think of is the fact that the Nikon EN-EL3e will NOT fit the D70(which is the camera many users had before moving up to the D80). Consequently, the batteries in the D70 will NOT fit the D80. That's a shame because those with both cameras will not be able to use the batteries as exchange backup "spares".
Nikon should have made those models with interchangeable batteries since the power source requirements are the same and many already have the older...and still VERY reliable batteries from the D70.

However, you can't have everything you want. It's a great battery that holds a charge for extended shooting and can easily go through the day without having to be charged up.
