I shoot high school sports events and typically take between 500 and 1000 shots a night. . . yet not once, have I even come close to using up the power in the battery.

Seems like its a cause celeb to boast that this is a substandard battery, yet the performance does not perform in a substandard manner. By all means, get a second or third one to use as back ups(I did), but you probably won't use them.
