Product:
Panasonic NI-R54NR Auto shut off Iron with adjustable steam and retractable cord
This product comes in a usual appliance cardboard box. Iron itself is white with a transparent water tank.
Useful Features:
-3 way auto shut off which means it will switch off if you leave it unattended in the upright position or on its sole
-retractable cord- has a button you depress and the cord retracts into the bottom of the iron
-3 steam settings and 6 heat settings
-self-cleaning
-spray mist
-Apparently has vertical jet steam to steam clothes while hung up, but I have not used this feature - I just end up hanging my dresses/suits in the shower to steam them out!
-sole has non-stick coating[remember not to clean with abrasive scours!]
-fairly lightweight
-large enough water tank so you don't need to fill too often
- comes with a one-year warranty
How much I paid for it:
$30 at Wal-Mart.
How long have I used it:
About 6-7 months, almost daily
What I like about it:
-Does its job very well
-Looks quite sleek
-The manual that comes with it does say that tap water can be used with this, which is why we decided to! Cheaper and less bothersome!
-It seems to heat up pretty fast.
-Its sole vent holes have not yet become clogged or coated with mineral deposits, even though I have not been using distilled water in it- I use regular tap water in it. I am not sure if this is attributable to the water or to the iron though!
-Light enough not to be uncomfortable
-The name Panasonic!
- The lower temperature settings [1 &2] are low enough while being effective on my more expensive and delicate clothes
- I love the retractable cord. The iron is so easy to store because of it!
-I have never had to see the auto shut off in action, so I cannot say much about that. But this iron does have that as a safety feature, and I feel safer for it.
Downside:
Can't think of any. The price is a little higher than many other irons I have owned like Sunbeam, but it seems to be worth the price so far.
Further info:
Use distilled water in irons. It prevents mineral deposits and clogged sole vents.
Do not use abrasive scrub to clean the non-stick sole
Never fill the water tank when the iron is on or plugged in
