H700 with Blackberry

by  thavill,   Mar 14, 2006

Pros:  lightweight, easy setup, pretty good battery life, not bulky

Cons:  mute not 100% (used w/blackberry), low volume, limited distance

The Bottom Line:  Great unit. Lightweight, holds a charge & works with my crackberry. That's what I was looking for.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

I've used my H700 for almost 3 months now, and I can tell you I really to do like it. I won't say I love it.. but let me explain!

PROS:
First, I love the fact that it is so light I forget I am wearing it (which is problem when taking off a shirt or my hoodie -- flip, there it goes!) It was very easy to setup, being my first experience with a Bluetooth device and only the 3rd day with my blackberry. The battery lasts about a day and a half of normal usage which is usually 3 hours of conference calls, a dozen or so personal/work calls of 3 minutes or less and another 20 or so hours of stand-by. Answering (1 touch) and hanging up (2 touches) work perfectly. Volume up/down also works with the Blackberry. I am not sure how much of the noise canceling works though, but I did use it at a car show with tons of music at the Convention Center and the person I was calling could hear me perfectly. Unfortunately, the volume on the headset was barely enough for me to hear them. Put your hand in front of your mouth and virtually all background noise is eliminated on your transmissions. I also like the fact that it uses the same power adapter as my blackberry 7290.

CONS:
What I don't like about it is that when you mute the headset, it does not mute the blackberry 100%. People can still hear you through the phone - which can be embarrassing. So you need to mute the phone and then everything is cool. Also, as mentioned above, sometimes the headset is not loud enough for me.. Usually when the person I am talking to is on a speakerphone themselves and does not have their xmit volume up. But that is not too often, but I do find myself pressing the headset into my ear, which gives more volume since the speaker gets closer to my ear canal (and no, I am not deaf and I don't have an ipod!)

I have experienced the problem where the headset gets static when the phone is one side of your body and the headset on the other ear. The H700 definitely prefers line of sight with the phone! You get about 20 to 30 feet line of sight distance...about 10' to 15' or less when the H700 is blocked by clothing, walls or your phone is pointing the other direction.

All in all, I recommend this headset - especially if you get it on sale. I still get lots of compliments on it and many coworkers want one after trying mine. I bought it new at Best Buy for ~$100.
