Worth its Weight in Gold!

by  loudgoldwing,   Dec 6, 2006

Pros:  Saves a man from performing domestic labor. EXTREMELY Reliable.

Cons:  Thermonuclear containment gear required to extract flatware upon cycle completion.

The Bottom Line:  If you are single and ever wish to be prepared to "pick up" on a moment's notice, or like me, have a Marine for a wife, you MUST OWN THIS!!!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

My wife is a United States Marine. When she was deployed to Iraq in January of 2003, I was involuntarily thrust back into a life of cleaning for myself. Having grown accustomed to a military cleaning routine, the only places I found myself lacking were 1) the cat box and 2) the dishes.

So, I went to Colder's (discount appliances) and bought a Danby countertop dishwasher. It is now December of 2006, and it is STILL GOING STRONG!!! Reading people's reviews of this machine, I am aware of a few problems you are having, and I offer to you the following solutions, as I've encountered them myself...

1) as for the motor burning out, ALWAYS, at the end of every use of the machine, disconnect the hose assembly from the faucet. Place the end of the hose in a spaghetti pot and set the pot on the floor. The, set the machine the VERY BEGINNING of the normal washing cycle and turn it on. The beginning of the wash cycle pumps out any leftover water. You will usually get about a pint (2 cups) of water spit down into the pot. This water is clean, so simply wipe the pot dry and put it away. People who have burnt out motors are the people who leave this water in the machine. It rusts the impeller pieces and makes the motor work over-hard, frying out the bearings.

2) the "sometimes it leaks" issue is caused by the poor location of the silverware bin (right up front). Sometimes, when the machine is full, a fork or knife will be sticking up when you close the door. It will get caught in the rubber seal and allow water to leak out. What sucks is that the door closes normally, and that you know nothing is wrong until the jets start running a few minutes later. Also, food and stuff will get stuck to this rubber seal, or even more commonly, the metal frame of the machine itself (where the door closes "in" to the machine). Make sure to wipe that area out once a month in order to maintain a good seal.

All in all, this machine has seen DAILY operation for at least the last 2 1/2 years since my wife has returned home. (maybe every three days for the first 1 1/2 years while she was gone) It is an EXCELLENT piece of equipment if you care for it as I've instructed.

As for you people who have complained about the dishes being too hot when you take them out, I feel your pain (literally).
