Good inexpensive camera, but.....

The Canon a560 has much to commend it. Crisp large viewfinder, 7 megapixel capability, three modes of autofocus (including Canon's face recognition), multiple shooting modes, and fairly intuitive menu structure, takes standard or rechargable AA batteries, light weight, ability to adjust ISO for faster/lower light shooting etc. It takes good crisp pictures in a variety of modes. Where it falls short is in its size, and one feature that would make it more useful.
This is a two battery (AA) camera, but darn near the same size as the old A85 of mine that it replaces, which required four batteries. It still has that handle hump grip, though it is slightly smaller. It is a tweener - it doesn't have the features of some of the bigger cameras, and it isn't really small enough to slide into a jeans pocket.
The feature I really miss is the inability to manual focus the camera, a very useful feature in low light or anytime you want instantaneous shutter response (such as shooting pictures of a leaping sailfish.)
But it is a fine point and shoot camera, easy to use, quick in response, sized for a purse rather than a pocket, that has most of the features point and shoot lovers will find attractive.
