Author's Review
I bought this for $39.82 from Amazon.com in February, 2007. I was looking for a headset that included a microphone to use with Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.0. After looking at numerous different headsets I chose this one because it connects through the USB port of my laptop instead of the microphone/headset plugs. I had used headset/microphones before that used the plug-ins and had very poor, if any, voice recognition. I bought these in the hopes that they would work better. I have been nothing but pleased.
Microphone
The microphone is quite sensitive. It can hear a whisper and accurately type it.
Headphones
The sound quality is wonderful. With my old headphones I had to have the computer volume on high and the headphone volume on high also to hear. On the Plantronics DSP-400 I usually have the computer volume on high and set the headphone volume to about medium and can still hear everything with a TV and 2 kids running around in the background.
Other Features
The fact that these are foldable is a big plus. They are great for portablity. I use a laptop exclusively and I need to be able to use the headphones wherever I go. Most headphones get twisted and bent out of shape traveling with them. These, because they are foldable, make excellent traveling headphones. They won't get bent out of shape by being stuck in a laptop bag.
They are also light weight so they won't add alot of weight to the laptop bag and they don't become uncomfortable when you where them for long time periods.
The software that comes with these allows the user to set the balance, bass, treble, and microphone volume. The set-up is very easy to do.
Another feature of the Plantronics DSP-400 is that even if the compter sound if muted it automaticly unmutes when the headset is pluged in. This can be a suprise if you don't know about it.
Only Con
The only con I could think of is that the mute button doesn't actually mute the computer sound just the headset sound.
