Cons:
I want larger hard drive, Needs illuminated keys
The Bottom Line:
Great combination of features and size. WOW factor is high. Gets alot of attention in Public. It's not an iPod so there is no DRM between PC's

I have been using this product for 7 months. I have had Creative Zen and iPod in the past. This player is the best thus far. I bought, because of:
1. Large Screen but yet still thin (0.5" thick)
2. Free WiFi 802.11b interface with Touchscreen Input
3. DVR function (need optional DVR station)
4. Removeable battery
I have a spare battery and bought the DVR station. The WiFi works great (albeit a little slower than a laptop, what do you expect). People have complained about all the options, but if they shipped with all the options, then people would complain that it is priced out of reach for Joe Average. I do not need the other codec plug-ins. I have all my music and video database converted to WMA and AVI (Divx 5.0). THere are freeware programs that can do this, and they are batch operated, so you cue it up, go to sleep, the next morning they are all converted. The removeable batt is great for long flights. If you look at my 4 requirements (see above) this is the only player that can cut the Mustard.
The DVR function is great for time-shifting programs, who needs SlingBox with this device!!
The new Archos are the only PMPs that can playback (and record) video in DVD quality (use output jacks from DVR). The 604 actually programs the Record times for the DVR, and changes the channel of your Set-Top box (IR link).
I would not call it a "Pocket" player, although it does fit in a shirt pocket...it is too heavy for that. I have seen the non-WiFi version, and the picture contrast is better than the WiFi version (touchscreen reduces contrast). I would make the trade-off and keep the touchscreen.
So far Archos has been updating the firmware regularly, and it is very easy to load and change.
Another nice feature is that it can store and transfer music to other MP3 players (or store photos from Digital Cams). On the DVR station, there are 2 USB ports (one Master and one Slave). Connect the "Slave" to your Main PC for Syncing, and the "Master" for transferring data to from the 604 to any other FLASH based device. Neat! Just drag and drop!!!
I have been using it to transfer to my Creative NuVo 1GB flash player.
I have made pretty decent (HiFi) recordings using the internal microphone too (ADPCM format, almost WAV quality).
The CONs: Larger hard drive, but yet still keep thin profile. Illuminated keys for navigation at Night Time.
