"Sir, Is this going to be a stand up fight, or another bug hunt?"

Pros:  Good Game play, Decent Graphics, Cool Weapons

Cons:  Doesn't really follow the movies

The Bottom Line:  If you are looking for a good first person shooter adapted from the Alien series of movies, this is your best bet!

Actually it's a combination of both. What starts as a bug hunt turns into a battle for your survival.

I have been waiting for a first person shooter Aliens game for quite some time. A used copy of Alien Trilogy was for sale for 9.99 at a local video store so I picked it up. Of all the first person shooter games I've played for Playstation, this is one of the best.

As with most Aliens games you play the part of Ellen Ripley. The story line in this game places Ripley and the Colonial Marines back on LV-426, the mission, to re-take the colony from the Alien horde that now resides there. There are some fairly decent cut scenes throughout the game that help the story move along. As you get closer to the end of the game you get to see Ripley head back to the derelict space ship from Alien to finally settle the score with the bugs.

The graphics and music in this game are quite good. Darkened corridors are lined with barrels and boxes which provide hiding places for face huggers and other assorted bad guys. This game is pretty realistic. For example, if you kill an alien and then walk over its acidic blood, you will take a fairly high amount of damage. Creepy background music adds to the excitement and helps to set a suspenseful tone for the game.

In this game, you achieve peace through superior fire power. You have several weapons at your disposal. At first you start out with a standard pistol, an adequate weapon for dealing with face huggers and other lowly enemies, but when it comes to the big time bugs you need something that packs a bit more punch. The second weapon you find is the shotgun, which becomes your minute by minute work horse in the early stages of the game.

Next you find the flame thrower, a fairly powerful weapon, but its high rate of fire is a major drawback. Finally you find some real weapons, the pulse rifle and the smart gun. Both fire the same type of ammo but the smart gun will actually seek its targets. The pulse rifle has a grenade launcher which comes in handy when you want to eliminate enemies from a distance.

The missions in Alien Trilogy are fairly simple. Most of the time you are running around the colony turning on the power and clearing barricades and barrels out of the way. Oh yeah, you are supposed to eliminate any bugs you come in contact with.

Overall I was fairly pleased with Alien Trilogy. It is a very exciting game for the first few hours of game play, but it soon gets a tad bit boring. Alien Trilogy is a solid game based on the Alien movies and is a must have for any Alien fan.
