Was a good motherboard

by  dglick5,   Aug 26, 2007

Pros:  Works very well for about 6 months.

Cons:  Then it stops working. Getting more difficult to find.

The Bottom Line:  Stay away unless you want to take the huge risk of replacing it in a short time.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

I bought this motherboard for several of my customers from my computer supplier. I probably sold 10 of them over the course of 8 months, and I was going on the fact that ASUS is a great company with a solid reputation for quality products.

Unfortunately, this reputation has fallen by the wayside with me. Unfortunately even ASUS is playing the "cheaper is better" game that all the other manufacturers are playing, and the experience that I have had with this board shows it.

I totally disagree with this strategy. Sure, cheap is great, but quality has to come first, and cheap is only great if quality is there - period. I can't even begin to say how many times hardware has failed on me because it was cheaply made. I would purchase more expensive hardware, but the problem is that there are no more quality parts out there because most all manufacturers have gone this route!

Anyway, getting back to the M2N-E, since I started putting these motherboards into systems, they have started to drop like flies. I have had three customers with those boards call back with DOA systems. The latest (and fourth) casualty was my wife's computer, which she uses to work with (count them folks, this is a 40% failure ratio). I simply put a USB flash drive in one of the front USB slots that she uses all the time, and crack!! The computer acted like it was restarting, but refuses to POST anymore. Power comes on, but no POST. Removed everything from the MB except the CPU, and still no response - now it is nothing but an expensive paperweight :(

So based on my experience with this board, I would recommend that you stay away unless ASUS fesses up and gives some type of "Yes we had a problem, but now it's fixed" announcement. I doubt this will happen though, so again, stay away from this board.
