The Compaq StorageWorks Modular Data Router (MDR) is a 1U Fiber Channel-to-SCSI bridge that allows a host server to communicate with a differential (or SE) SCSI tape device (both LVD and HVD) over a Fiber Channel link. Each MDR has a single Fiber Channel connection and two SCSI buses supporting up to four DLT 35/70 or AIT tape drives per dual port SCSI module. An optional module allows four more tape drives to be supported for a maximum of eight drives supported by a single MDR (with two dual port SCSI modules installed).??If connected to a tape library, then the robot arm of the library will require a SCSI connection resulting in MDR support of only seven drives.
