Great camera, excellent images

Pros: Small, lightweight, easy to use, great images

Cons: Diopter
Matrix metering flaw

The Bottom Line: If you don't having to fiddle with the exposure compensation once in a while, the D40 is an excellent first DSLR.

Review: I'm not got to babble a lot of BS...but I've been shooting since I was a punk kid with a Kodak Brownie. And in the end, the only thing that matters is results. The D40 gives them. For the price (and they're getting cheaper), it's an excellent bargain. ...

Upgrade from compact

Pros: Easy to use. Menu is clear and precise.

Cons: Limited to use of view finder when taking pics. Became accustomed to Viewscreen.

The Bottom Line: If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing!

Review: I was wanting to upgrade from my Compact to an SLR, but was so intimidated by what was out there. After reviewing the quality of this particular SLR, and going into a store to look it over, I became more excited to use it. I think it is a good step up. ...
